About The Basic Firearms Safety Course

The first step in the process of applying for a Concealed Weapons License is completion of a basic firearms safety course. Brooklyn Firearms provides a class which meets all State of Florida Concealed Weapon Permit requirements. The class is held every other Wednesday night at 6:00pm and is approximately 2 hours long. Cost is $75.00 per person (includes 30 min range time). Seats must be reserved and paid for online; walk-ins welcome if space is available.

What topics does the class cover?

The class provides students with an introduction for the safe handling and storing of firearms. We will touch upon many topics including the NRA’s three safety rules, the fundamentals of responsible gun ownership, proper cleaning and safe storage of firearms in the home, where you can legally carry a concealed firearm and where it is prohibited, plus so much more.    

Upon successful completion of the class, you will receive a signed Certificate of Completion which you will need in order to apply for a concealed weapon or firearm license. Instructions on how to apply are covered during the class.   

To be eligible for a Florida concealed weapon or firearm license:

  • You must be a United States citizen or a permanent legal resident alien. 
  • You must currently reside in the United States. 
  • You must be 21 years of age or older. 
  • You must be able to demonstrate competency with a firearm.*

How do I reserve a seat and pay for the class?

Please review our class calendar to reserve a seat.  Once you choose the day that works best, you will be directed to the payment page.  The cost is $75 and must be paid in full.  We accept PayPal with more payment options coming soon!  

 

What do I bring to the class?

Your driver’s license or any other state-issued photo identification card is all you need to bring with you.  All materials will be provided and are included in the class fee.

Do I need to bring any safety equipment?

At Brooklyn Firearms the safety of students is our number one priority.    

All firearms safety class participants are given their own ear protection and eye protection to keep.  

Meet The Instructor

Rodney

Instructor Rodney A. Chin has over 40 years of tactical and security training as a Retired New York City Police Detective 2nd Grade.  First responder on 9/11 during the World Trade Center attack. Currently under the US Marshal’s Service as a Federal Court Security Officer and has continuous training and updates on the latest security breaches and threats.  Has over 20 years of security experience providing both Executive Protection and investigative services in the private and retail sectors. Has provided security for former US Ambassadors, and other well known Celebrities and High Profile Families. Has study Criminal Justice and Security Management at John Jay College. He holds numerous licenses within the State of Florida.

What is the quickest way for me to submit my application?

If you’re looking for a quick and convenient way to submit your application, Brooklyn Firearms recommends submitting your application for a Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm license, in person, at the local Division of Licensing’s Regional Office in West Palm Beach located at

The Regional Office application intake service is designed to allow applicants to complete the entire application process quickly and conveniently. You simply have to go online and make an appointment.  Click on the logo below and you will be taken to the appointment page for the West Palm Beach Regional Office.  From there, you can schedule an appointment at your convenience. 

 

 

BE SURE TO BRING THE FOLLOWING TO YOUR APPLICATION APPOINTMENT:

  • A picture ID. A driver license or state-issued identification card is acceptable.
  • A copy of your Certificate of Completion.
  • Your payment of $97   NO Cash 

 

At the time of your appointment, you will be directed to a computer station where you will complete an electronic version of the application form. Our Regional Office staff will review your application, scan your fingerprints, take your photograph, and process your payment. 

You should be able to complete the entire process of applying for a new license in an hour or less. Your application will then be sent, electronically, to Tallahassee for processing. 

 

When will I receive my license?

The Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services has 90 days after receipt of a complete application to either issue a license or deny the application.

 

Can I check the status of my application?

You can periodically check the status of your application.

Brooklyn Firearms does not issue or renew the Florida Concealed Weapon Permit license.

All Florida Concealed Weapon Permit license applications are processed through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
